A major new ceasefire proposal has been presented to both Israel and Hamas by Egyptian and Qatari mediators, according to a BBC report citing senior Palestinian sources. In a potentially groundbreaking shift, Hamas is reportedly willing to cede control of Gaza to an agreed-upon Palestinian authority, either the Palestinian Authority or a newly formed administrative body. The report also notes that while the deal covers Israeli hostages, it doesn’t mention non-Israeli captives such as the Thai and Nepalese nationals, or the bodies of two Thais and a Tanzanian still held in Gaza.
