Shelagh Fogarty and Jon Sopel worked at the BBC for over 60 years between them. Now, having left the broadcaster, they're able to insight on what it was like to cover sensitive stories while working there. Shelagh explains how whenever they were covering stories about Israel or Palestine, there was an 'internal pressure' from above - but that this was a 'good' pressure that helped inspire rigorous checking and rechecking of their work. They take a look at the recent 'Hamas propaganda film' story through this lens. The BBC has been accused of a lack of due diligence by featuring the son of a Hamas leader in their documentary. Jon Sopel describes the difference between BBC News and BBC Current Affairs, and how this difference - though imperceptible to those outside the company - can in part explain the failings. The BBC now has "serious questions to answer," and the News Agents host has called for a "health warning" to be slapped on the doc.
