In a major development, the White House has decided to hold direct and secret talks with Palestinian group, Hamas, in a bid to secure the release of American captives and strike a long-term truce in Gaza. This is the first time the US has decided to hold direct talks with Hamas since declaring Hamas a terrorist organisation in 1997.
