The first handover took place in Rafah, southern Gaza, with Tal Shoham, 40, being freed after being taken from Kibbutz Be’eri on 7 October 2023. Avera Mengistu, who was seized in 2014 after crossing into Gaza, was also released. Following this, Red Cross vehicles arrived in Nuseirat, central Gaza, for the second handover, where Eliya Cohen was led onto the stage, followed by Omer Shem Tov and Omer Wenkert, who were also handed over to the Red Cross.
