Dr Majed Al-Ansari, adviser to the Qatari Prime Minister and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, joins Matt Frei to recount the late night talks that lead to a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. Although the agreement was initially proposed months ago, Dr Al-Ansari argues it is thanks to President-elect Trump and his conversations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that an agreement was reached. Politics was the main obstacle to reaching a deal, making international pressure key to its success. Looking ahead, Dr Al-Ansari believes this is the last chance for peace in the region, 'without a Palestinian state living side by side with Israel, these crises will continue just manifesting through the occupation'.
