Israel bombs Gaza - Qatar Signals Progress in Efforts to End Gaza Conflict | Dawn News English

Dawn News English Qatar has expressed renewed optimism in efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, following a month-long pause in its mediation attempts. Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that after the US presidential election on November 5, the country sensed momentum returning to the peace process. Al Thani noted that while Qatar initially stepped back from mediation due to a lack of willingness to end the war, recent encouragement from the incoming US administration has prompted Qatar to re-engage. In Doha, Al Thani emphasized the need for both parties to demonstrate a willingness to end the conflict. He said the key questions were whether both sides were ready to end the war and agree to a prisoner exchange. If the answers are yes, a deal could be reached. Meanwhile, in Gaza, Israeli attacks continue, with 39 Palestinians killed in airstrikes on Saturday. A strike on a refugee camp in Nuseirat killed at least 26 people, while Israeli forces also targeted Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. The World Health Organization warned that the hospital’s ability to function is severely compromised, with medical staff and patients fleeing the area. Israel's war, which has killed over 44,600 Palestinian since October 2023, continues despite ongoing efforts to negotiate peace. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has faced criticism for obstructing talks, while US President Joe Biden’s administration, despite its support for Israel, has not managed to secure a ceasefire.
