In his closing remarks at the Brics heads of state summit in Russia on Thursday, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said South Africa launched its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice earlier this year “with a view to stopping the killing of innocent women and children in Gaza”.
Ramaphosa reiterated South Africa’s “unwavering support” for the establishment of a Palestinian state “within internationally recognised borders based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital”.
He also highlighted the “forgotten” conflict in Sudan, calling on the need to support those who wish to end conflict and “choose the path of peace”.
